Black Funeral set release date for mini-album

Black Funeral set release date for mini-album

Today, Iron Bonehead Productions sets September 28th as the international release date for a new mini-album from the legendary Black FuneralThe Dust and Darkness, on CD and 12″ vinyl formats.Formed in 1993, Black Funeral are one of the founders of American black metal. The band’s first two albums, 1995’s Vampyr – Throne of the Beast and 1997’s Empire of Blood, are widely considered black metal classics, and are among the earliest releases on the cult Full Moon Productions label. Since the beginning, the band has been guided by the boundless vision of one Michael Ford (AKA Akhtya Nachttoter), who has concurrently garnered international respect as a leading author on Luciferianism and occultism. And although many lineups have come and gone since those pioneering first two lineups, Black Funeral found its strongest formation yet with 2016’s Ankou and the Death Fire. Released to widespread acclaim by Iron Bonehead, the album saw the inclusion of Drowning the Light mastermind Azgorh Drakenhof handling guitar, bass, and keyboards. As such, musically, Akkou and the Death Fire was a purely black metal record brimming with medieval majesty and malnourished misery, a blackflame both bright and bleary, all laced with Ford’s characteristically chilling ambient soundscapes. In many ways, it was a reinvigoration of the classic Black Funeral sound, and that forward momentum continues unabated with The Dust and Darkness.

Recorded 2017 in Australia and the United States, The Dust and Darkness is a recalling and vampyric sonic ritual of Hittite, Hurrian, Canaanite, and ancient Syrian Underworld offerings and necromancy. The title “Dankuis Daganzipas” is the Hittite Underworld, “The Dark Earth,” and is the dwelling place of spirits and chthonic deities who desired blood as their primary offering besides incense and libations. The Lady of the Underworld, Allani, is the ancient Hurrian goddess who is a type of psychopomp as a solar deity who guides the dead into the Underworld. Allani is identical to the Mesopotamian Ereskigal. The god “Chemosh of the Dust and Darkness” is an epithet for an Ugaritic deity of the Underworld who is similar to both Baal of Peor (Belphegor) and Nergal. His name was associated with elements of the underworld and “Bird of Prey.” As such, the four songs comprising The Dust and Darkness sonically surge with grim abandon and majestic melancholy, unflinching in their familiarity but only because this is the Black Funeral whose name is legendry within the darkest depths of the black metal underground. It is altogether 17 minutes of invocation and seduction, exacted by deft hands well versed in the blackest of magick. Here, there is only The Dust and Darkness

Step forward into that dust & darkness with the new track “Dankuis Daganzipas (Dark Earth)”

Tracklisting for Black Funeral’s The Dust and Darkness
1. Dankuis Daganzipas (Dark Earth)
2. Alanni Goddess of the Underworld
3. Chemosh of the Dust and Darkness
4. Mistress of the Pit

Metal Detector Finds: A New Level

Metal Detector Finds: A New Level

A New Level

What’s better than metal?

Talking about metal of course!

From Radioactive Metal (our favorite) to Hellcast we absolutely love metal podcasts!

Today we’ve stumbled upon a new type of metal podcast. A podcast that doesnt just take a look at the consumer’s view of the metal world.

This podcast is on A New Level

A New Level is hosted by Ozzy Osbourne bassist, Blasko. Some people may recognize him from his work with guys like Danzig, Rob Zombie, and most importantly, Cryptic Slaughter! One thing that a lot of metal fans may not know is that he has had an active career behind the scenes of the metal world for quite sometime. All while making friends, learning the do’s and don’ts of the music business.

Anyways, about the podcast.

In season 1 Blasko holds discussions with friends and colleagues who have busted their ass to get where they are. Some of these guests have worked with some of the biggest name in metal such as Slayer, Pantera and more.

It seems that with only a few minutes of listening to the first episode the intent and message are clear. He gives no image that a career in the music business is by luck. The people in the business, at least the one’s he’s interviewed so far, are where they are because of hard work and passion.

You want a career in the music business?
I would definitely recommend this podcast for any metalhead, especially anyone wanting a career in the music industry.

I didn’t really intend on this being a review. We just thought this was a really cool concept involving metal.

Available on most podcast platforms.

Finland’s Morketida to release debut on Werewolf Records/Hell’s Headbangers

Today, Werewolf Records, in conspiracy with Hells Headbangers, sets August 17th as the international release date for Morketida‘s striking debut album, Panphage Mysticism, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

Hailing from the black metal hotbed of Finland, Morketida drive deeply into their native land’s most mystical depths. Whereas so many nowadays Finnish black metal bands derive influence from the cryogenic fury of the Satanic Warmaster axis or the paradigmatic bestiality of early Beherit, Morketidareturn to the woodland wonder of such oft-overlooked hordes of Noenum, Vritra, and Blood Red Fog’s most desolate musings. By no means plagiarists, the young mavericks behind Morketida similarly invoke a ghostly grimness, wandering within the night to thick-yet-spacious swells of ripped-raw guitar and foggy organ. Largely downtempo, this is black metal stripped of superfluous aggression but suffused with beyond-the-shade atmosphere. Indeed, this is Panphage Mysticism!

Werewolf Records is a Luciferian metal temple founded in 1998. The wolfish cry from the Carelian battlegrounds, Werewolf Records releases black metal and other dark arts motivated exclusively by theistic Satanist views of the founder Werwolf. In this age when black metal’s worth is questionable, idealism and rigor are the exception when they should be the highest law. We uphold the law of the Wolf – the destruction of the weak and the false so that the original vitality of the dark magic art can continue to grow and create the foundations for an empire. Black metal is Will and Power. We deal with material that inspires us on our journey towards our own kingdom – a kingdom that is not yours, but bears a resemblance to the one there could be for you. Now in conspiracy with Hells Headbangers, the temple of Werewolf Records shall wage its war farther and wider than ever, with no spiritual surrender.

In the meantime, hear the new track “Temple of Prevailing Darkness”

You can pre-order the album here at Werewolf RecordsBandcamp.

Invocation Spell sets release date for fourth album, Spread Cruelty in the Abyss

Invocation Spell sets release date for fourth album

On Friday, Hells Headbangers sets July 27th as the international release date for Invocation Spells‘ highly anticipated fourth album, Spread Cruelty in the Abyss, on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats.

There’s simply no stopping Invocation Spells. One of the hottest bands in the shit-hot Chilean black/death scene, this diabolical duo continues to unleash one punishing slab of filth ‘n’ fury after another, each one more concise and crushing than the next. Spread Cruelty in the Abyss follows hot on the heels of the critically acclaimed The Flame of Hate, released internationally last year by Hells Headbangers. Like that predecessor, Spread Cruelty in the Abyss wastes absolutely no time in igniting a sulfurous conflagration from the first few notes…except this time, it’s more quickly apparent how daresay catchy Invocation Spells have become.

Lest anyone accuse the band of softening or selling out, be aware that Spread Cruelty in the Abyssis simply and 100% Invocation Spells through and through: no compromise, and no quarter. Like The Flame of Hate before it and Descendent the Black Throne before that, Spreads Cruelty in the Abyss possesses a special magick that eludes easy “blackthrash” categorization – namely, through an acute balance between the bestial and more classically speed metal tropes – but the molten, even martial pulse the duo develop further here turns these more deliberately hypnotic spells of possession into veritable anthems of minimalism, spilling poison and black blood in equal measure, and even more endlessly headbanging than before. And with this unselfconscious, even-more-pronounced emphasis on “catchiness” comes an even swifter and stricter sense of economy: Spread Cruelty in the Abyss clangs ‘n’ bangs with absolute authority in a mere 26 minutes. Get in, get out, get fucked.

And just like they have with their songwriting nous, Invocation Spells have all about perfected their production style, once again locating that ever-so-sweet middle-ground between fuck-off raw and clear/cutting, with each incensed-yet-impassioned note ringing out through the humid haze before mangling the mind with quintessentially Chilean diabolism. And now, North America will be able to witness that diabolism in the flesh, as Invocation Spells will be heading out on an 11-date tour alongside fellow Hells Headbangers speed metallers Outline; the CD and tape versions of Spread Cruelty in the Abyss will be available for early sale during the tour (dates after the jump). This summer’s gonna be a hot one, then, so no better time to Spread Cruelty in the Abyss!

Hear for yourself with the album’s opening track, “Ruins of Cemetery,”

Check out Hells Headbangers‘ Bandcamp, where the album can be preordered. Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

2. Rotting Sacrifice

Zeal and Ardor to Release Sophomore Effort June 8th

Image result for zeal and ardor logo

Zeal and Ardor is an experimental metal act fronted by Manuel Gagneux. The project brings a fusion of blues, Gospel, and spiritual melodies together with scathingly dark metal overtones to create a murky, soulful, harsh, headbanging new sound. Zeal and Ardor achieved critical acclaim with the first album release “Devil is Fine” in 2016, and what began as a joke brought about by the suggestion of 4chan users to mesh spiritual melodies and black metal became an international act.

Now Zeal and Ardor returns with sophomore effort promising to be more poignant, more precise, and more diverse. “Strange Fruit” is set for release on June 8, 2018 via MVKA. Can Zeal and Ardor top “Devil Is Fine” with their new creation?

With the first single, “Gravedigger’s Chant”, Gagneux delivers a dark, inviting, burial ode. His vocals are nothing short of perfect crooning over the bluesy piano chords and thunderous beat. The first track succeeds at grabbing attention indeed.

“Waste” is unrelenting with heavily distorted tremolo riffing, blast beats, and maniacal howls hearkening to the glory of Norwegian black metal. The raw, violent brutality of the music contrasts strikingly against Gagnuex’s  melodic vocals, it’s very provoking; downright spellbinding even the way Gagneux can bring together such starkly different sounds into a cohesive metal monolith. “Built on Ashes” builds on heavily distorted guitar and somber piano chords drawing again on that wonderful contrast between bluesy southern spiritual and maniacally dark metal.

I was very excited to see “Don’t You Dare” on the tracklist. This is probably my personal favorite Zeal and Ardor song. The song features well crafted blues licks and flawless execution of damningly heavy black metal-esque riffing paired against harsh, tortured vocal shrieks. The heaviness of the song builds up into a wall of black that hits you head on and knocks you on your ass just to spit you back out into the cool delta blues before launching another vicious attack.

I’m certainly looking forward to giving the rest of the album a listen when it drops on June 8. I anticipate more enchanting things to come based on what I’ve heard so far, and I’m curious to see what the rest of the Trve Kvlt Community thinks. (By the way if you haven’t checked out “Devil is Fine” I strongly encourage you to give that a shot.)
